The Aesthetics of French Pastries:
A Cultural and Historical Account of Pâtisserie in Paris
My research project, "The Aesthetics of French Pastries: A Cultural and Historical Account of Pâtisserie in Paris," delved into the cultural and historical influences on the visual construction of French pastries in Paris. The study spanned three years, combining interviews and observations to uncover how cultural traditions shape pastry aesthetics. I discovered that globalization has impacted the way French pastries are presented, both preserving and evolving their traditional visual aspects. The research was presented at Elon University's 2023 Spring Undergraduate Research Forum and accepted for the Association for the Study of Food and Society 2023 conference at Boston University, showcasing its academic significance.
Below, I attached my comprehensive anthropological article, the presentation associated with my article as presented at Elon's Undergraduate Research Forum, as well as a photo gallery featuring the images taken in Paris and in New York City throughout the duration of my research.
